Much-loved administration secretary retires at Jávea golf club
ISABEL Reyes Sanz retired from Jávea golf club last week, after 15 and a half years of dedicated, professional service to the club.
Isabel, originally from Madrid, moved to Jávea 40 years ago and began work at the golf club. Despite not knowing much about the sport, she quickly learned all the golfing terms and complex forms of the game so that she was able to carry out her job very effectively. She knows all the members by name, each of whom holds her in very high esteem.
In her role, Isabel has been responsible for the administration of membership, helping to facilitate the buying and selling of shares at the club – Jávea is one of the very few private golf clubs on the Costa Blanca which is owned by and run by the members. Isabel also managed the pro shop, being responsible for the buying of the club’s quality golf clothing, golf shoes and equipment.
In addition to her many administrative tasks, Isabel was responsible for golf competition entries and results.
“In my first few weeks in
the job, I was so very nervous because I didn’t know anything about golf. I didn’t know a Stableford from a medal, but I had enormous support from all the many friendly people at the club. The vice president even sat next to me to help me sort out the results of the first competition for which I was responsible,” said Isabel.
When asked about what she will most miss after leaving the club, Isabel responded immediately: “Oh that’s easy. I will miss so much the friendliness of the ladies and gentlemen members and my colleagues. They have been so very kind and helpful to me. Look at these beautiful gifts I have received.”
In retirement Isabel plans to spend more time with her family in Madrid, especially her 92 year old mother, and she wants time to relax, but she promises to visit the club often so she can meet all those who have meant so much to her during the last 15 years.
