IT was another cool start to the day on Tuesday, April 4, for the Memorial Trophy. As I said last week, spring might be here but there was still a nip in the air for the early starters.

We had a full house of 32 players on the day, with no room for guests as all the tee times were used by members.

We all know that slow play can be very annoying, so Oliva Nova have come up with a novel idea. Two players will tee off at the same time, thereby avoiding waiting time on the tee. Actually, that was an April Fool joke sent out by our handicap secretary! But you never can tell so you should take care on what you wish for.

We had no twos, so the prize money is rolled over to next week. Nearest the pins went to Peter Turner on the fifth hole, with his second shot finishing closest. On the 11th it went to John Evans. Both Peter and John took home a sleeve of balls.

We had some pretty close scores, with, from third place down, only two points separating third from seventh place. There was a bit of a gap between second and first place, but with a magnificent 42 points Brendan Young came out on top, so takes home the Memorial Trophy. (Well, he doesn’t take it home, but it will have his name forever engraved on it)

The winners were:

1. Brendan Young – 42 points

2. Roger Brown – 39 points

3. Peter Turner – 36 points

4. Keith Price – 36 points

5. Silvana Rey – 35 points

6. Anette Bowen – 34 points

7. Bill Pike – 33 points There were no match plays on the day, but players were reminded that the first round had to be completed by the end of next week.

Next week’s game will be a pairs better ball competition, if you would like to play, please email the handicap secretary at pegohandicapsec@gmail.com
