WELCOME to our Writers’ Ink group’s weekly words. We provide news, views, tips and examples of writing by authors and poets, local and beyond.

Founded in 2010 by WordPlay, our purpose is to encourage writers to write and get them published and read. Keep writing! Hi there,

WE may be in Spain, but it's difficult to ignore the 'Coronation fever' which exists in the UK right now, even if an anti-royalist. Looking at the situation in a different light, the news makes a welcome change from the doom and gloom of the dire state of much of the world right now.

Looking to history, I believe it was Charles I who lost his head. Can't recall what happened to the second one... but feel our present Charles is fairly safe head-wise... I'm sure he'll enjoy himself !

Although I have mentioned them before, several times, the Michael O'Mara book series are real little treasures. They are stuffed full of interesting information about so much, they are worth hunting out. The one I read today was 'A Classical Education' and was written, with humour, by Caroline Taggart. Going back to the mythical gods, it is mindblowing what many people perceived to be true. 'All the gods were 'at it' – often with relatives, and the preposterous stories surfacing were unbelievable. (No radio or TV then, don't forget...) However, the book is about so much more.

It covers classical languages, mythology and religion, ancient Greek history and

Roman; classical history, architecture, art, maths, science and inventions, philosophy and 'The Games'.

Bowing to time – do we have a choice? - several Writers' Ink members had a small luncheon last Sunday. We were watered and dined well, and some had wine and exercised our jaws for an interesting hour or two. A few members, who have travelled a fair few miles over the years, had plenty of tales to tell from their various journeys. Always fun to reminisce. I would always recommend travelling to anyone who wanted to become a serious writer. Husband and I have met some fascinating people over the years. A larger than life Scot quickly comes to mind. He had an enigmatic personality and self-effacing, humorous way with him that could quickly light up a room. Sadly – as he had so much knowledge to share with so many (he was a professor of toxicology) he died too young. I am smiling at his dear memory.

Before closing, it occurred to me to mention writing more short stories. This may appeal to someone keen to have more people read their work, and maybe comment or write a review and perhaps inspire them to write a novel. Come to think of it, I have three murder stories I grew to admire, with the same detective in charge. Perhaps I'll put them back in circulation...

Whatever you're working on, keep at it and the best of luck.
