Our final demonstration before our summer break is with a club favourite David Thomson. David was last with us in November 2021 and by popular demand is making a return visit on Thursday, May 25 and his title is 'Spring into summer'.
David's involvement in the flower world was triggered by his after-school delivery job in a prestigious Glasgow flower shop. Taking up a career in the legal profession, David moved to England and began floristry evening classes as a hobby, whilst working as a property lawyer in Essex. He decided to expand that hobby and obtained his City and Guilds Floristry qualification at Southwark College in London, after which he attended Writtle College near Chelmsford, where he obtained the Society of Floristry ICSF qualification. This led to him teaching evening classes at the college (having also obtained the City and Guilds Adult Teaching Certificate) and it was as a result of this teaching that he first became involved in flower demonstrations.
He became a NAFAS (National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies) area demonstrator which took him all over the east of England and beyond and, in 2007 became a NAFAS national demonstrator. Having now given up law, David travels extensively around the United Kingdom and abroad, demonstrating and teaching as well as taking part in flower arranging competitions.
He has, in addition, taken on many commercial commissions including the Jewel House at the Tower of London, Kensington Palace and St Paul’s Cathedral, and is also well known for his floral wedding artistry.
Entrance for members is €7 and €10 for visitors. There is plenty of parking in the large free car park. All welcome.
