Greedy guts George

-

CONGRATULATIONS to Georgie Porgie Osborne for his sterling efforts at maintaining an image of an arrogant toff who only lifts his snout out of the trough when there is a passing gravy train to jump aboard.

Not content with his MP's salary, the squillions earned on the lucrative lecture circuit and his fee for working for an investment fund, the former chancellor is now going to be paid for being the editor of the Evening Standard, despite having zero journalistic experience. But worse than his avarice and the obvious political and commercial conflicts of interest is the disdain with which I believe he shows his constituents and his new career in journalism. That’s because he is not prepared to give his all to either.

He said he will be able to balance the editorship with his job as an MP, but it will be impossible to do both well. Each is a fulltime job so something will have to give.

Jobsborne’s address to the paper's staff was buttock-clenchingly awful, full of patronising guff and stunning for its inanity. He told reporters the unsurprising news that readers turn to newspaper reports and analysis pieces for information about the big issues of the day.

He also said he wants to learn from his staff about how to run the paper. Oh for crying out loud. So in addition to their own demanding jobs, the journalists will have to be his wet nurse. As the petition delivered to his constituency office on Monday said: "pick one job and stick to it".
