BENISSA BYPASS - ONE STEP CLOSER

- By Jo Pugh jpugh@cbnews.es

BENISSA residents, and all N332 users, may finally see their wishes come true - the long awaited bypass is now becoming a reality rather than a pipe dream.

Juan Carlos Moragues, central government delegate for the Valencia region, has now assessed who will be awarded the construction of the much needed road, and work should begin once the winning bidder has been announced.

The bypass begins at the 175.2km point of the N332 and encircles Benissa in a northerly direction to re-link with the old N332 at the 179.7km point.

The bypass has been designed as a ‘ normal’ road of 4.5km, with one lane per direction and additional lanes for slow vehicles in sections where required.

Moragues stressed that the important investment being made by the Ministry of Public Works on this project "will mean an improvement in the lives of citizens of the area, as it will virtually remove heavy traffic in the town, and it will decongest and speed up traffic, especially in the summer when there are more tourists ".

The plans include a large roundabout on the original N332 which will have exits to the new bypass, Jalón and Benissa itself.

At the northern end, the new bypass will join the old N332 at another new roundabout, with exits to Benissa and the AP-7.

Almost three kilometres of soundproofing barriers and fencing will also be installed, so that residents will have less traffic noise from the new road.

The budget for the bypass is €21.85 million for the 4.5kmlong stretch.

"This is one more example that this government listens to the community and builds new infrastructures that improve the road safety," emphasised Moragues.
