D-DAY LANDING IN BENIDORM

Whether you were there or have an interest in history, a spectacula­r re-enactment will be taking place in Benidorm.

More than 200 members of Codex Belix, made up of 30 groups and associatio­ns dedicated to recreating historical events will take you back in time to the D-Day landing this summer.

The 3-day event is totally free and will take place today, Friday 16, Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 June on the Poniente beach in the Old Town. Those taking part are not only coming from across Spain but also from other countries including Russia, Poland, Belgium, France, UK, Portugal and America.

More than 50 restored American and German military vehicles and cannons from WWII will form part of the parades on each of the three days and a live musical performanc­e by ‘Red Velvet’ – a trio of girls will serenade with 1940’s swing, taking you back in time and have you joining in to the likes of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and Mr Sandman.

Guardia Civil divers and the Spanish Army will also be tak- ing part in the re-enactments on the beach and the Spanish Air force will be parachutin­g down onto the sand.

It will be an event like nonother you are likely to have experience­d before and listed below are the highlights you should aim to see. Friday, 16 June At 5:00pm: Armed forces and military stands open to the public. At 6:30pm: Parade of military vehicles through the town. At 9:30pm: Musical performanc­e by ‘Red Velvets’ Saturday, 17 June At 10:30am: Opening of stands At 11:00am: Retro military parade through the town. At 1:00pm: Fashion show of women’s WWII military uniforms. At 7:00pm: Historical re-enactment of “The Normandy Landings 1944’ At 9:30pm: Musical performanc­e by ‘Red Velvets’
