Jávea port parking problems over

-

Parking headaches are set to become history in Jávea port with free spaces for thousands of cars set to open after the Moors and Christians, which finish this weekend.

A field of nearly half a hectare has been weeded and flattened out, and all that was left to do before the fiestas was to fit a handrail on a sloping part and set up signs.

Traders, residents and visitors have long complained of the frustration involved in trying to find somewhere to park, and shops and bars say the inconvenience costs them business.

But their prayers have been answered, and the new car park between Calle Cristo del Mar and Calle Lepanto will even allow people to drive easily to the port and dump their vehicles when fiesta parades take up the streets.

And even more spaces are set to appear later in the year: the garden areas along the central reservation of Calle Lepanto will go and parking areas realigned to fit more cars in.
