PARALYSED CYCLIST PASSES AWAY
A CYCLIST who was left paralysed in an accident in May this year sadly passed away in a spinal unit near Glasgow on Wednesday evening.
John Telfer, from Calpe, had to be flown back to Scotland by air ambulance after suffering life-changing injuries in a crash on the Pedreguer to Alcalalí road caused by a tree trunk protruding into the road. After discovering his travel insurance had expired only two days previously, a GoFundMe page was set up by friends to help pay for his transfer to the UK, and €25,000 was raised in just over a week, including generous donations from our readers.
John was sent to a specialist spinal unit near Glasgow, where he was initially thought to be slowly recovering. After two months, he was able to move two fingers on his right hand. Unfortunately, John contracted sepsis after complications, and passed away peacefully at 19.00 on Wednesday.
John was a popular member of Benissa Cycling Club.
Our thoughts are with his wife Dawn, daughter Laura, son Gregg and the rest of the family.
