Police foil bid to steal cashpoint

The Guardia Civil and Orihuela local police foiled the theft of a cash machine in Orihuela Costa on Wednesday night. According to the local police, the thieves had used a tow truck they had stolen from an excavation company in Aspe. The target was not a bank, but cash machine installed on the street in front of an estate agency on Calle

Cabo de Palos in Lomas de Cabo Roig. The thieves used the truck's crane to demolish the brick walls protecting the machine and managed to attach it to the winch. They were ready to lift it onto the lorry but residents warned the police after being woken by the noise. The approachin­g security forces forced the criminals to abandon the lorry and cash dispenser and they fled the area.
