Villajoyosa changes King's avenue name

VILLAJOYOSA town hall have approved the changing of a street name – from Avenida Juan Carlos I (the street bordering Plaza de la Crueta) to Dr Pere Esquerdo.

This name was actually originally agreed back in 1932 and never officially revoked when it was renamed after the now former King.

The council claimed Juan Carlos I 'has taken advantage of his position to enrich himself illicitly so has no place in our administration'.

The street will revert to its original name 'to honour a naitive resident who remains a great role model'.
