CCTV on bins in La Nucía
La Nucía council has installed CCTV surveillance cameras next to garden waste bins in a bid to discourage gardening companies and others who are not entitled to use them from dumping their waste there, leaving no room for residents' rubbish.
It has been an ongoing issue and culprits face hefty fines of between €750 to €1,500 if caught by the local police. Over the last few weeks the 'podas' containers – for garden cuttings - have been overflowing on a daily basis, primarily filled by gardening companies rather than residents. La Nucía is one of the few towns that provide bins for garden waste but they are exclusively for residents' use and not businesses.
