Alzira hospital workers issue formal complaint

WORKERS from La Ribera hospital in Alzira have warned that the lack of medical staff in the A&E department will cause severe delays throughout the summer.

The team met with the works council and explained their issues, which have been going on for many years and are now worsening further due to the pandemic. They warn that working conditions were bad when the hospital was pri"They vately run, but say since it has been taken over by public ownership, the focus has been on improving the equipment rather than the workforce.

In addition to low staff numbers, according to the workers themselves, leaves of absence, holidays and retirement­s by A&E department doctors are neither covered nor replaced. They also warn that the solution for this summer has been to hire youths who have just finished their qualificat­ions. lack the necessary experience to work at the A&E department. They are precarious contracts by hours. We are going to have serious issues. It is reckless," claimed a worker.

As a result, the employees committee penned a formal complaint warning that the current situation will lead to ‘diagnostic delays’ and will ‘negatively affect the direct attention received by users’.
