The 32nd Alfaz Film Festival will go ahead – from July 1825, although a scaled back version to the normally extravagant affair. The event is taking place two weeks later than originally planned and on a tighter budget - €50,000 instead of the original €150,000 with the €100,000 balance diverted to the Social Welfare department during this particularly difficult period.

An additional €35,000 grant was also given by the Alicante Provisional government.

However, despite this 865 short films have been presented to this years Film Festival, all vying for the €7,500 prize money - €4,000 to winner, €2,00 second place and €1,000 for third place.

There is also an award for the best short film directed by a woman with a €500 cash prize in addition to an award designed by Amparo Boluda.

The annual film festival is one of the most important and prominent events hosted by the town, attracting people and media from across the entire country.
