Waiting times for TIE to be reduced

- By Dave Jones djones@ cbnews. es

THE NATIONAL Police have launched an emergency plan to process applications and renewals of TIE residency cards and identification documents.

The initiative is designed to reduce the long waits which are being experienced by citizens due to the Covid19 pandemic, according to a force spokesman.

The bid to beat the backlog is being operated around the Valencia region,

The spokesman explained that in Alicante province ‘ timetables have been extended at different offices’ where the documents are processed.

Additional staff are also being drafted in to man the desks.

He said they will now be open in the afternoons as well as during the morning.

One of the goals is to allow residents to renew documents which have expired in recent months, he added.

Britons in Spain have been able to apply for the new biometric residence card – Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero, or TIE – since July.

It is not obligatory to do so, the British Embassy has stressed.

However, Britons who do not

have any form of residency are advised to apply as soon as possible.
