Police make bank holiday busts

-

NATIONAL Police in Alicante arrested five people for robberies with violence over the October bank holiday weekend.

A 24hour shop was robbed by a group of youths just before 01.00 on Sunday, reported a force spokesman.

The shop owner called to say the thieves had shoved and threatened to kill the employee while they filled their pockets with goods before they split up and fled.

Officers on motorbikes arrived almost immediately and managed to catch three of the suspects after a brief chase. In another incident, officers had stopped a man they thought was acting strangely when another young man approached and told them that a few minutes previously this person had stolen his mobile phone and slapped him in the head.

Finally, a person walking home was assaulted by someone who tried to snatch a phone from their hand and threatened them with a knife.

The assailant injured the victim’s hand with the blade but did not manage to get the phone and ran away.

However, the attacker had a tattoo which the victim described to police and an officer was quickly able to locate and arrest the suspect nearby.
