“My house is not a dog toilet”

- By Samantha Kett news@ cbnews. es

PEGO residents have complained that dog walkers are letting their pets wee up against their houses and are not bothering to rinse it off afterwards.

Some homeowners have resorted to putting signs up.

“We have to wash our outside walls several times a day, because owners seem incapable of pouring a bit of water over the urine when their dogs have finished,” complained one resident.

A sign printed out multiple times and taped to several properties reads: “My rendering is not a dog toilet. If you don’t like your pet doing it in your own house, please don’t let them do it in other people’s.”

But locals say the polite requests are largely ignored.

“There are some people who just don’t care, because you still get wee and poo everywhere – it doesn’t look as though the council’s ‘ pickitup’ campaign is working here,” another resident said.

Pego council insists excrement in the village streets has diminished considerably since it started its awareness drive, which is shown by the fact the local police are collecting less in fines.

Dog owners who cannot be bothered to clean up are hit with a fine of between € 50 and € 150.

The town hall states that the affected homeowners should tell them ‘ whenever it happens’ so they can try to catch the culprits.
