Power to the people

-

Power cuts and surges and constant tripping could soon become history in La Safor thanks to a € 10 million investment by the national grid and Iberdrola.

A new electricity substation is set to be built in the hospital and La Vital shopping centre area of Gandía, linked to the existing one in the Alcodar industrial estate, reinforcing energy supply to the entire district. According to the national grid ( REE), the new doublecircuit underground 220kV line will be up and running by the end of next year or early 2022 and will involve one of the biggest investments in the area’s power supply this century. The shortage of electricity connections has long held back commercial development in the Oliva, l'Alqueria de la Comtessa, Miramar and Piles areas, where industrial estates and other infrastructure cannot be built or expand as Iberdrola cannot guarantee supply. Work on the new substation is set to begin within the next few months and will take just over a year to complete.
