Committee Plate competition, n Oliva Nova Golf, Tuesday October 13
ANOTHER chilly start to our Tuesday match, the early mornings are a little cooler now we are in October, but it soon warmed up and was a good day for playing golf.
We had 31 Pego members playing today, along with one guest; Peter Turner, who we welcome back from last week, we hope he continues to join us on Tuesdays, especially as he won nearest the pin in two on hole 5 today, with his second shot finishing just 0.76cm from the pin.
There was only one two today; Susie Snelling, ( there would have been three but the Danny Herron missed a tiddler and Mick Farmer didn’t put his euro in the pot), so Susie walked away with the lot. Nearest the pin on hole 16 went to Mick Farmer with his tee shot being 1.53m from the pin.
Work continues on the paths on the 8th and the 10th hole so these are still a little shorter than usual, but it will not be long before they are fully open again.
The Committee Plate is a stableford competition and the scoring was quite close with three people having 36 points only to be separated on ‘ count back’ but Shaun O’Gorman playing off 6 had a great day and finished in top spot with 38 points. He can bee seen here being presented with the Plate by our captain Brian Barden.
This week’s winners were; 1st Shaun O’Gorman – 38 points, 2nd Mick Farmer – 37 points, 3rd place Malcolm Sharp – 36 points, 4th Fiona Sankey – 36 points, 5th Paul Sankey – 36 points, 6th Roy Jones – 32 points
We do have one picture this week, as the captain and Shaun were ‘ social distancing’ and Shaun had the added precaution of a mask we thought it safe to publish the picture without causing offence. We continue to assure everyone that we are doing both of these things as the rules require, but do not think masks would look odd in a photograph.
There is no scheduled competition next week as the fairways are being reseeded, so we will reserve a few tee times and anyone wanting to play please contact penelopebarden@ gmail. com.
