Regional restrictio­ns in February bear fruit

Valencia continues to make progress in the fight against coronaviru­s

ACTIVE cases of Covid-19 in the Valencia region have fallen by 90% in the last month, according to the regional health department.

On January 27 they reported that 72,036 people in the region had coronaviru­s, which had been reduced to 7,663 active cases on Wednesday. Councillor for health Ana Barceló noted on Wednesday that 413 new infections had been recorded in the last 24 hours, with 795 patients making recoveries during the same period.

By province, 17 of these were in Castellón, 177 in Alicante and 217 in Valencia.

Hospitals

The number of Covid-19 patients being treated in the region’s hospitals has dropped below 1,000 for the first time this year – and stood at 975 on March 3.

This figure has been halved in the last two weeks, with 1,981 people suffering coronaviru­s on wards around the region on February 17.

On Wednesday there were 89 Covid patients in Castellón province, 443 in Alicante province and 443 in Valencia province. A total of 238 coronaviru­s patients were being treated in intensive care wards around the region (111 in Alicante province) – a reduction of 80 in the region on last week’s figure.

However, the death toll remains high.

A total of 241 people died of Covid-19 in the seven days before March 3 in the Valencia region, taking the overall total since last March to 6,774.

Care homes

On Wednesday the health department reported that there were 70 active cases of Covid19 in residentia­l care homes around the Valencia region – and seven residents were reported to have died from coronaviru­s in the previous 24 hours.

A total of 33 care homes in the region are under ‘active observatio­n’ from health department officials.
