The Healthier You Eat the Longer You Live

INADEQUATE EATING HABITS CAN LEAD TO A MULTITUDE OF DISORDERS IN HUMAN METABOLISM SINCE THE BODY NEEDS TO GO THE EXTRA MILE TO TRANSFORM SUBSTANCES AND DO AWAY WITH TOXINS

Et is a proven fact: many people prefer to wallow in those foods that they consider pleasant, even though they may be risky to their health. However, inadequate eating habits can lead to a multitude of disorders in human metabolism since the body needs to go the extra mile to transform substances and do away with toxins.

In the long run, this renders in the appearance of chronic diseases, such as cancer, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular conditions, obesity and gastritis, just to mention a few examples.

But, what is considered as a healthy diet? How can our diet help us to prevent or control such diseases?

The basic principles of proper nutrition focus on macrobiotics, which is nothing more than a natural system that emphasizes the effects of the macro-diet, lifestyle and environment, and through which physical, mental and spiritual health is established and maintained.

According to the experts, the dietary component of macrobiotics is based on traditional dietary patterns, which promote the intake of whole and organic foods, such as cereals: brown rice and ground oats (low in saturated fats that are very harmful to the blood vessels); legumes or beans: chickpeas, lentils, beans, and black and red beans (provide vegetable protein and are a good source of minerals); leafy vegetables and tubers (rich in calcium, vitamin C, and the B complex); and fruits, nuts, and seeds.

Honey constitutes another versatile food (it can be taken alone, to give flavor to drinks or to cook desserts and plates) with an important contribution of nutrients and therapeutic properties. Elaborated by bees from the nectar of different flowers, its flavor and color vary according to its origin. Its function as a sweetener is even more powerful than that of sugar and its value in nutrients and vitamins makes it an indispensable product in the daily diet.

Every day you can choose a menu based on these food groups, but you must take into account the way you are going to prepare them. It is prescribed to try to boil, roast, bake or steam them, and never fry them, keeping special attention to the proportions and quality of the products.

In short, a well-nourished person has more opportunities to develop fully, live healthily, learn and work better and protect

themselves from illness.
