INHEM KEEPS LEADING THE PACK IN RESEARCH, POSTGRADUATE TEACHING AND TECHNICAL-SCIENTIFIC SERVICES

INHEM continues to be at the forefront of postgraduate teaching in all its modalities, the provision of scientific-technical services and the development of research. In fact, it is not only penciled in as a Research Center, but also constitutes a management unit of the National Research Program: "Health Determinants, Risks and Disease Prevention in Vulnerable Groups". Its role is fundamental in the study of the risk factors of chronic noncommunicable diseases, in the evaluation of nutritional state and micronutrients' deficiencies, which has propitiated the constitution of the Cuban Network of Health Determinants.

It is a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center in the area of Health in Housing, and it has the category of sponsoring institution of the Cuban Academy of Sciences and it is part of the Environmental Training Network for Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

In the field of teaching, it has a highly prestigious faculty with great scientific potential, trained to teach the specialty of Hygiene and Epidemiology, the Masters of Environmental Health and Nutrition in Public Health, in addition to diplomas, courses and practical training.

The Institute maintains scientific links with international counterpart institutions, and at the same time it carries out research projects with United Nations agencies represented in Cuba. Currently, it assumes challenges related to the application of the National Health Survey and participates in the elaboration of public policies and the standardization of protocols and methods to be applied in the organization of health services..

We offer courses, internships and practical training in the field of nutrition in the different stages of the life cycle, food safety and hygiene, trade security, food surveillance and safety, standardization and health legislation, environmental health and social determinants of health.

LEADING PRODUCTS:

Sanitary registration: regulatory activity for the granting of sanitary certification and authorization of free sale as the National Competent Authority of MINSAP of food for human consumption, food additives, diagnostic means, materials in contact with food, utensils for food use, cosmetics, toys, manufactured tobacco products, personal hygiene and household cleaning items, as well as environmental products and technologies.

• Evaluation of environmental risks.

• Evaluation of sanitary technologies in contact with water (chlorine tablets, water purifiers, purifying jugs, zeolites, surface waterproofing, treatment plants, among others).

• Evaluation of air quality.

• Food and nutritional evaluation.

• Biochemical evaluation of the nutritional state.
