PREPARE FOR A GOLDEN STAR
‘Golden Star’ is a programme where talents are showcased - more specifically a programme with a view to involve the talented singers aged between 18-30 hailing from Gamapaha - conceived by MP Ruwan Wijewardene and members of the Wijewardene People’s Forum. After going through almost 800 applicants in its inaugural event, the programme is now in its final few stages.
The musical direction of the programme is handled by Neil Warnakulasuriya of the famed band Sunflowers; therefore the competitors need not worry because they are in safe hands when it comes to getting their act together!
The judging panel is headed by Neil Warnakulasuriya, Kasun Chamika of Sirasa Superstar fame and Professor of Music and Voice Ajith Herath.
Speaking to Daily Mirror Life Ruwan Wijewardene, the creator of “Golden Star” said, “There is so much untapped talent out there. This project took some time to get off the ground, but it’s finally here and the response has been amazing.”
Speaking of the prizes for the top five winners, one realises that the stakes are simply high and the prize that these guys would be receiving will be a dream come true - a CD with their songs on it. Honestly, it can’t get any better!
The first two rounds of the competition took place at the Lakmal Hall in Gamapaha last week.
The Semi Finals consisting of 40 contestants backed by the Sunflowers is scheduled to take place on 16 August and the Grand Final comprising 12 contestants will take place on 28 September.
On a closing note the numbers say it all. 800 contestants in its inaugural event, Golden star looks to be a force to be reckoned with!
