Revival of Kotte Period ‘Pathana Pokuna’
The archaeological remains of the palace and the royal park of Viceroy Sakala Kala Wallabha who ruled in Udugampola during the Kotte Period is now being conserved under a project implemented by the Archaeological Department. The project initiated by the Director General of Archaeology Dr Senerath Dissanayake is supervised by the Deputy Director Dr. Mohan Perera and Research Officer Mutu Tennakoon. At present the ‘Pathana Pokuna’, a pond in the royal park is being restored. The archaeological offi- cer in charge of the project said that the ancient pond and its surroundings have been declared an archaeological site by gazette notification.
Meanwhile, the Minuwangoda Pradeshiya Sabha has undertaken to construct a road leading to the historic pond. Chairman of the Pradeshya Sabha Kumara Arangalla on Saturday (12) inaugurated the construction of this road.
