Revival of Kotte Period ‘Pathana Pokuna’

The archaeolog­ical remains of the palace and the royal park of Viceroy Sakala Kala Wallabha who ruled in Udugampola during the Kotte Period is now being conserved under a project implemente­d by the Archaeolog­ical Department. The project initiated by the Director General of Archaeolog­y Dr Senerath Dissanayak­e is supervised by the Deputy Director Dr. Mohan Perera and Research Officer Mutu Tennakoon. At present the ‘Pathana Pokuna’, a pond in the royal park is being restored. The archaeolog­ical offi- cer in charge of the project said that the ancient pond and its surroundin­gs have been declared an archaeolog­ical site by gazette notificati­on.

Meanwhile, the Minuwangod­a Pradeshiya Sabha has undertaken to construct a road leading to the historic pond. Chairman of the Pradeshya Sabha Kumara Arangalla on Saturday (12) inaugurate­d the constructi­on of this road.
