Inter monsoonal rains will continue in Sri Lanka though cyclone Nilam had drifted away, the Meteorolog­y Department said yesterday.

A Department spokesman said all parts of the country will experience evening showers in the coming days.

The department reported that there were showers yesterday as well. Accordingl­y Batticaloa received the highest rainfall of 7 mm while Nuwara Eliya also experience­d some showers. Other areas including the North Central Province were reported to be dry.

Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre said 99 displaced camps which were opened in Co- lombo, and suburbs including Gampaha still existed as the floods have not receded in those areas.

According to the Disaster Management Centre nine people had died by the storm created by cyclone Nilam which affected 12 districts destroying 242 houses and partially damaging 4781 houses. Some 216,681 people were affected by the adverse weather conditions.
