Railway vendor’s body found in water tank

An unidentifi­ed body of a man believed to be a vendor was found in a water tank inside the toilet of the Ragama Railway Station on Wednesday evening.

A commuter using the male toilet had noticed the corpse and had informed the station authoritie­s to recover the body.

The upper part of the victim’s body was found submerged in the water whilst the lower part was outside. He seemed about 50 years of age. The railway authoritie­s could not find any identifica­tion papers with the corpse but noticed that he was a vendor selling water bottles and other small items on trains.

OIC Ragama Police W. M. S. Gunasekara is conducting inquiries.

The body awaits identifica­tion at the Ragama Hospital Morgue.
