PM pays tribute to ‘Master Sir’ Nimal Mendis

The late singer and songwriter Nimal Mendis, who passed away on April 16 at the age of 81, was an artiste who had gifted the local music scene with many timeless classics, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesi­nghe said yesterday.

Issuing a condolence message on the demise of the great musician, Mr. Wickremesi­nghe said songs like ‘Nim Him Sewwa', ‘Ganga Addara', ‘Upul Nuwan Vidaha', ‘Davasak Da Re Wasantha Senakeliye' and ‘Master Sir', had become evergreen hits because of the tunes and rhythms that gave life to them. He added that the owner of these tunes was none other than the late Nimal Mendis. He said the late vocalist was called ‘Master Sir' after he composed the music for the famous song of the same name. Songs like ‘Nim Him Sewwa’, ‘Ganga Addara’,‘Upul Nuwan Vidaha’,‘Davasak Da Re Wasantha Senakeliye’ and ‘Master Sir’, have become evergreen hits
