We should recognise the sacrifices of our war heroes: Ruwan
“We salute our valiant war heroes for their service to the nation and the sacrifices they made, some with lives and others who were either maimed or were made disabled so that the future generations could live in safety. This sacrifice should never be forgotten and as an act of gratitude it is proposed to provide the families of war heroes a Privilege Card, which would enable them to get special recognition at State institutions and also receive priority service at these institutions”, said State Minister of Defence, Ruwan Wijewardene. The Minister expressed these views while presiding over an event to present scholarships to children of war heroes of Gampaha District held at the District Secretariat. This function had been organised by the Ranaviru Seva Authority.
Mr. Wijewardene said that he was very happy to be able to launch this scholarship scheme which would benefit the children of war heroes and attributed the freedom the country enjoyed today and the peace that had dawned on the country to the supreme sacrifices these valiant men and women had made. “It is our aim to safeguard these families so that they could live with pride. Some people are attempting to spread lies that the government had forgotten the deeds of the war heroes and that avenues had been created for the LTTE to rise up again. These are canards. The war heroes had now earned the recognition of the world. We displayed our capabilities and dedication to duty by offering our help to the victims of the recent calamity in Nepal, “he said. He also said they had taken note of the various shortcomings that existed in the Ranaviru villages and steps were being taken to rectify any shortcomings he observed. In this exercise he welcomed the assistance given by the Chairperson of the Ranaviru Seva Authority, Ms Anoma Fonseka.
