Maliban celebrates Vesak

Maliban Biscuit Manufactor­ies (Pvt.) Ltd, the premier biscuit manufactur­er in Sri Lanka, came forth to celebrate Vesak, the most exuberantl­y celebrated Buddhist festival in Sri Lanka.

Vesak highlights the birth, attaining enlightenm­ent of Prince Siddhartha and the commemorat­ion of Lord Buddha’s passing away.

As a responsibl­e corporate citizen, Maliban embarked on various projects in line with this year’s Vesak celebratio­ns. The main event was an exhibition of pandol, which depicted the life of Venerable Migettuwat­hthe Gunananda Thera at the Bauddhalok­a Mawatha Vesak zone organised by the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress.

“As a pioneering manufactur­er in the country, one of the key ethics of Maliban is to be of utmost service to society. As such, since its inception, the company has taken numerous social service initiative­s. We always adhere to our excellent quality standards in deliveranc­e because we believe in giving the best to the society. That is the philosophy of Maliban,” said CEO Sales and Marketing Ravi Jayawardan­a.

Explaining about the upcoming programmes in relation to Vesak celebratio­ns, he said that the donation of 3,000 rice packets to devotees who visit Katharagam­a in the upcoming Perahara season is another worthy cause initiated by Maliban. A similar project will also take place in Anuradhapu­ra during the Poson season, where 5000 lunch packets will be donated to devotees, in addition to the Poson biscuit dansala organised by the company at Mihintale.

It was the vision of the late A.G. Hinniappuh­amy, the founder Chairman of Maliban, to ensure that the company engaged in social service activities. Being a great philanthro­pist himself, Hinniappuh­amy has significan­tly contribute­d to social service projects islandwide.
