The continuing mystery over Thajudeen’s death; Minister claims one, brother says “an accident until proven otherwise”; Two Defenders at the scene

Speaking to the Daily Mirror Minister John Amaratunga said that the investigations done so far have proved that Wasim Thajudeen was murdered. Further investigations are being carried out to find out who could be responsible for this incident

THE UNEXPECTED DEATH OF WASIM THAJUDEEN, HAVELOCK SPORTS CLUB RUGBY PLAYER AND VICE CAPTAIN OF THE SRI LANKA RUGBY TEAM ON MAY 17, 2012 STIRRED A LOT OF DOUBTS AND CONCERNS OVER THE MEDIA FOR QUITE A WHILE. THREE YEARS AFTER THE INCIDENT, WITH THE EMERGENCE OF INVESTIGATIONS SINCE FEBRUARY MANY DOUBTS ARE YET TO BE CLEARED.

Meanwhile, the mystery took a U-turn when the Minister of Public Order, Disaster Management and Christian Affairs, John Amaratunga made a strong statement that his death was not accidental and was a murder.

Speaking to the Minister John Amaratunga said that the investigations done so far have proved that Wasim Thajudeen was murdered.

“Further investigations are being carried out to find out who could be responsible for this incident.” Meanwhile, there were also rumours that a powerful family of the previous regime was behind the death of the star Rugby player. Since the reason, the accused and nature of Thajudeen’s death are still unknown, the contacted a few sources to investigate the possible causes behind the incident.

There is nothing to prove that the Rajapaksa sons were behind the incident: Asfan Thajudeen

In a social media page named ‘Justice for Wasim Thajudeen’, Asfan had made the following comment:

“As his brother and on behalf of the family I humbly request that you to refrain from using his name and pictures of him to make accusations in regards to his death. Please consider the consequences that would befall us, as the family has to deal with when these accusations are made.

“We genuinely do not believe that there was any foul play in regard to his tragic death and so far not one piece of evidence has come up to prove otherwise.

The family has to deal with the loss everyday of our lives.

Our parents are finally learning how to live with this loss after accepting that he’s gone.

These accusations and assumptions and a possible ordeal of another investigation are only going to impact very negatively on their progress and I very humbly ask you all not to continue with this. We all loved him dearly and now he’s gone, let us accept it, cherish his memories and let him rest in peace”. Speaking t o the

, Asfan Thajudeen, the brother of Wasim Thajudeen said that there was nothing new to be said.

“We as the family don’t really know anything else other than what is already there in the media.

In t erms of what’s going on at the moment we don’t have any input regarding it.

They are all still rumours. Also there is nothing to prove that Rajapaksa’s son was behind this. Wasim never had any quarrels with anyone and everybody loved him. Even what is in the media is not right or wrong. We actually have no reason to believe that there anybody could be behind his death. We still believe that it is an accident until it is proven otherwise.”
