Two new meet records at senior Tarbat championships
Vidusha Lakshani of Newstead Girl’s College, Negombo and Shehan Wisanperuma of Lyceum College,Wattala established two new meet records on the first day of 84th Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletics Championships at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex, Diyagama.
Lakshani established this record in the under 20 girls triple jump event with a performance of 13.05 m. She broke the record of 12.50m which was established in 2014.
Wisanperuma established a new record in the under 18 boy’s long jump event with a leap of 7.09m. He broke the record of 7.04 m established by W.D.M Dilan of Nalanda College, Minuwangoda in 2005.
Most of the day’s events were disrupted by rain. This championship is being conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools AthleticsAssociation and is sponsored by Ritzbury. More than 3000 athletes from 315 schools are participating at this meet and today is its second day.
