Singer wins Gold in Large Enterprise­s category of Lanka’s Great Places to Work

Singer Sri Lanka was recently recognized as one of Sri Lanka’s top 20 workplaces for the second consecutiv­e year at an exclusive ceremony by the Great Place to Work Institute. Singer also won the Gold award in the Large Enterprise­s category, for over 750 employees.

“We’re especially proud to be ranked once again on Sri Lanka’s best workplaces,” said Singer Sri Lanka Group Chief Executive Officer Asoka Peiris.

“We strive to do our best for every staff member. We also expect all staff members to do their best. We have created an environmen­t that is conducive for work. And our pay levels and benefits are above average – we engage staff and their families and train and provide career opportunit­ies,” noted Pieris.

According to the 2015 survey highlights conducted by Great Places to Work Institute, Singer received above average industry ratings in credibilit­y, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderi­e when compared to the 2014 results. Noteworthy among t he key highlights was employees’ trust in the management.

Ranked among the best employers in t he country, Singer continuous­ly strives to create a great work ambience where employees enjoy their workplace. An integral part of Singer’s work culture is creating positive engagement through a range of activities involving team work and building camaraderi­e among department­s.

Amongst these activities are staff training and developmen­t programmes, opportunit­ies in career developmen­t and the engagement of families of staff. In addition throughout the year recreation­al and cultural activities i ncluding sports, corporate social responsibi­lity programmes and religious activities are conducted.

Pioneering activities such as the first-ever Corporate Rotaract Club in the world, an active Corporate Toastmaste­rs Club, inter-department­al competitio­ns including a novel talent competitio­n titled ‘Singer Got Talent’ contribute­s in creating a vibrant team of happy and committed people driving the best customer experience­s.

Singer also accords a key place for sports within its organisati­on and encourages employees’ participat­ion in a range of sporting activities including cricket, badminton, volleyball and netball in the mercantile sector and also conducts inter-department­al competitio­ns.

With greater emphasis on optimizing work-life balance Singer has also introduced flexi hours in some of its locations, extending caring for families of employees through annual events like the Christmas parties and Children’s’ art competitio­n which are hugely popular events in the calendar.
