- BY ROMESHMADUSANKA

Jaffna High Court Judge M.Elancheliyan instructed police to take action against the internet cafes in the Jaffna district that allowed school children to misuse the internet. He stressed the need to enforce the laws to clamp down on the escalating crimes due to the misuse of the internet of which the victims were mostly schoolchildren. The High Court Judge informed the senior police officials that he had received several complaints that internet cafes in the district were safe havens of the lovers and the people called them “Love Cafes.”.

He pointed out that many school children were in danger of falling prey to abuses and misconduct. The judge ordered the police to prevent children under 18-years of age visiting internet cafes unless they were accompanied by parents or a teacher. He also ordered the police to seal the internet cafes that violated this requirement and to take legal action against the owners.
