A man was allegedly stabbed to death by his brother in law on Saturday (15) night during a quarrel at Ambuldeniya in Madiwela, .

The victim, G.D. Nishantha Vijithananda (46), was a married man and residing at Udahamulla, Nugegoda

The victim was the suspect’s sister’s husband.

After a dispute with his wife he had lived apart from her during the last few years.

After he left his wife, she and their 10 year old son had lived with the wife’s parents at Kumbukgahapokunapara in Udahamulla.

Her husband had gone to live with his mother at Madiwela.

Nishantha had recently begun to visit his mother in law’s house frequently, and his brother in law had told him not to do so. He had also told Nishantha’s father to keep him away.

On the night of the incident the suspect had telephoned Nishantha and scolded him.

Later Nishantha had gone to the suspect‘s house. The suspect had been drinking with two of his friends at the time. The two brothers-in-law had begun to shout at each other and the friends had gone out to bring some more liquor.

When they returned they had found the two brothers-in-law fighting.

The suspect’s parents and the neighbours had also heard the fracas and gone to the scene.

The victim had been bleeding and been rushed to Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital -- the two friends had told the police.

Police had also found the knife allegedly used in the stabbing at a nearby place.

Mirihana Police are conducting further inquiries.
