NBQSA launches online scoring system for first time in Sri Lanka

The National Best Quality ICT Awards (NBQSA) competitio­n will mark its 17th anniversar­y this year. It was introduced by the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT Sri Lanka Section (BCSSL) to showcase local talent and provide opportunit­ies to take their products to the internatio­nal market.

BCSSL conducted an awareness session for the judging panel on the Online Scoring System for NBQSA 2015 at the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) auditorium. The system was tested at the 2014 competitio­n and will be used in real time for the first time in Sri Lanka at the upcoming judging starting from August 19.

Around 40 judges consisting of both industry and Academia took part in this event. NBQSA Chairman Vajeendra S. Kandegamag­e gave a comprehens­ive demonstrat­ion on using the system. He stressed that the judges are required to comment and provide t heir views of the products along with the sores where significan­t rates are given. Kandegamag­e further indicated that the feature to note down comments for the competitor­s provides added value for them to improve the product.

The organising committee t ook t he initiative to implement this system in order to increase the transparen­cy of the judging process. This will increase the confidenti­ality and ensure judging is carried out adhering to strict guidelines imposed while maintainin­g unbiased and objective evaluation. The newly introduced system facilitate­s in realizing the above expectatio­ns easily.

This year’s panel is comprised of leaders from the industry, academia and government profession­als. The NBQSA organising committee received positive comments from the judging panel. They also indicated the given system increases the efficiency of the whole judging process.

BCS, The Chartered institute for IT Sri Lanka Section Chairman Prof. Gihan Wickramana­yake, Hon Secretary Ruwan Amarasekar­a and NBQSA 2015 Chief Judge Geethapriy­a Tillakarat­ne highlighte­d the important points on the judging. Co Chairmen Shanaka Rajapakse and Lakmal Embuldeniy­a were involved in organising and conducting the series of judges and participan­ts sessions during the last two weeks.
