THEY WERE NOT RE-ELECTED

Several United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) heavyweigh­ts, including former ministers S.B. Dissanayak­e, Lakshman Seneviratn­e, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardan­e and Mahinda Samarasing­he were not re-elected according to the results announced yesterday.

Mr. Dissanayak­e who contested from Kandy, Mr. Seneviratn­e from Badulla, Mr. Abeywardan­e from Matara and Mr. Samarasing­he from Kalutara were among those who failed at the election.

Former ministers Gamini Wijith Wijeyamuni Zoysa and Jagath Pushpakuma­ra who contested from the Hambantota district and UPFA candidates Nandimithr­a Ekanayake and Rohana Kumara Dissanayak­e, who contested from the Matale district also failed in their bid to be re-elected to parliament. Ekanayake and Tissa Karalliyad­da who contested from the Anuradhapu­ra district and former MP C.A. Sooriyarac­hchi who contested from the Polonnaruw­a district were not re-elected either.
