United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesi­nghe yesterday urged the people not to divide themselves into winners and losers but work together as one family for the betterment of Sri Lanka and introduce a new political culture to the country. In his special statement Mr. Wickremesi­nghe said the people had given a mandate for good governance and for consensusb­ased politics.

In his special statement Mr. Wickremesi­nghe said the people had given a mandate for good governance and for consensus-based politics. He commended all those who did their utmost to ensure a free and fair election.

“We should not describe ourselves as winners and losers but should get together as the sons and daughters of our Mother Lanka and take an active part in bringing about a new political culture with equal opportunit­ies for all Sri Lankans. Let us unitedly lift our nation to new heights by overcoming all challenges we face,” he said. I invite all of you to join hands with us to face the challenges of our Mission. Let us together build a civilized society, build a consensual government and create a new country with equal opportunit­ies for everybody, he added.
