Politician­s’ sons run away after accident

A jeep which veered off the road in a bi-lane in Aluthgoda, Waikkal on Monday evening and crashed on to a boundary fence of a house and a telephone post and caused damages had been left abandoned and the four persons who had travelled in the jeep had fled the scene, Wennappuwa Police said.

Police informed further that a son of deputy Minister representi­ng the East, a son of a former Southern Provincial Councillor, a son of a lawyer in Katuneriya and another person had been in this jeep and no sooner the accident had occurred they had left the scene abandoning the Jeep.

jeep away and had been boisterous. The crowd claimed the four who came in the jeep appeared to be intoxicate­d.

When the police inspected the jeep they had found few ‘Packets of Bite’ inside it. The crowd insisted on the police taking action against those who had travelled in the jeep. After the police officers assured the crowd that legal action would be taken against those who had travelled in the jeep and the matter reported to Courts, the crowd dispersed allowing the police to take the jeep into their custody.
