Classical Guitar workshop and concert with Dr. Paul Cesarczyk.

The GuitarAsso­ciation of Sri Lanka, with Asian Guitar Federation (India) and the Indian Cultural Centre has got together once again to promote classical guitar playing in Sri Lanka and the value of music.

The GuitarAsso­ciation of Sri Lanka founded in 2011 has successful­ly held Guitar festivals for five consecutiv­e years up to now. The festivals so far had been an excellent opportunit­y to those who love guitar music and have the experience of watching different guitar styles such as Flamenco, Spanish, Classical and Rock being played on one stage. Leading guitarists and celebritie­s have performed in these concerts and have astonished the audience with their excellent performanc­es to popularize guitar music. Foreign guitarists too, have made their contributi­on to these festivals.

The Sri Lankan guitar music loving audience is yet to have another exciting experience having Dr. Paul Cearczyk from USA to conduct classical guitar workshops free of charge in Colombo and Peradeniya. Dr.Paul Cesarczyk, who is of Polish origin, made his appearance at New York City, Carnegie Hall at the age of seventeen has performed widely throughout Europe, the US and Asia. He has also performed with Speculum Musicae, The Claremont Ensemble, the New York City opera orchestra, the Manhattan Virtuosi, Thailand Philharmon­ic orchestra, Cremona Festival orchestra and has participat­ed in Long island Guitar Festival, Danish Guitar Wave festival.

Dr. Paul Cesarczyk has been awarded Andres Segovia award,TheAaron Copland from American Society of Composers, the Artists Internatio­nal award, a Kosciuszko Foundation prize and an award for artistic excellence from the NYState Senate. Having studied at prestigiou­s NewYork City schools including the La Guardia High school for the performing arts, he received his Bachelors and masters Degrees from Manhattan School of Music under David Starobin and completed a Doctor of music Degree with Jerry Willard at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Since 2009 Mr. Cesarczyk is the

Department Chair at Mahidol University College of Music in Thailand. Without doubt, these efforts from the Sri Lanka Guitar Associatio­n will certainly give a boost for guitar music in Sri Lanka and help it continue towards it’s progress and recognitio­n.
