Two suspects taken into custody
The police, during investigations of a robbery of cash and jewellery belonging to a woman walking along the Galle road in Dehiwala, had identified the trishaw from the CCTV recordings at the location
Two suspects wanted in connection with a series of highway robberies were arrested and jewellery valued at more than Rs.600,000 robbed by them was recovered by the Dehiwala police. The trishaw used by them was also seized during the raid.
The suspects were residents of the Mattakkuliya and Grandpass areas and about 30 years of age. The police, during investigations of a robbery of cash and jewellery belonging to a woman walking along the Galle road in Dehiwala, had identified the trishaw from the CCTV recordings at the location. The main suspect had used the trishaw belonging to his wife for robbery with his accomplice. When the woman was taken in for questioning she provided information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
The suspects under interrogation released information regarding their involvement in robberies in Malambe, Grandpass, Welikada and Dehiwala areas.
A police team under OIC Crime Investigations, SI Sapumal Ekanayake and Sergeant 8253 Podiralahamy conducted investigations on the instructions of OIC Dehiwala Police Kapila Abeysekara, ASP Ranjith Kottachhci, and Senior DIG Pujitha Jayasundara arrested the suspects.
