Sri Lankan lawyers Take Wing to Australia

5th Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup

The Sri Lanka Lawyers’ Cricket team took wing to Australia to participat­e in the Fifth Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup which is currently on in Brisbane, Australia and will end on January 10, 2016.

The Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup is a biennial Cricket competitio­n played between teams of lawyers from all cricket-playing countries. The theme of the tournament is “Cricket for Friendship”

The previous tournament­s were held in Hyderabad, India in 2007, Cambridge, England in 2009, Barbados in 2011 and Delhi, India in 2013. The Sri Lanka Lawyers’ Team which participat­ed in the 3rd Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup held in Barbados emerged runners-up.

The World Cup in Australia is widely anticipate­d to be the greatest ever cricketing spectacle in the world of legal profession­als and judges and it is expected to be highly competitiv­e and keenly fought. The event will be witnessed by a great number of distinguis­hed legal luminaries. The matches are being played at College grounds within the University of Queensland and the grand final will be played at the acclaimed Gabba Cricket Grounds in Brisbane.the Sri Lanka Lawyers’ Cricket team who will represent Sri Lanka at the 5th Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup is a well-balanced outfit with a good blend of experience and youth. Manesh Wevita will lead the team for the World Cup and his deputy will be Yushan Tharanga Abeykoon. The team is coached by Upali Senaratne, who is a Level 1 Qualified Cricket Coach of Sri Lanka Cricket. This team comprises mainly of private practition­ers with representa­tion from the State Sector as well as the Corporate Sector.
