Condé Nast Traveller’s 2016 ranking Sri Lanka second best place to visit

Sri Lanka is ranked second among the top 16 places recommende­d by the world famous travel and life style magazine Condé Nast Traveller to visit in 2016.

Endorsing Sri Lanka as the second ‘Top 16 Places to Go in 2016,’ Condé Nast Editor, Traveller’s Associate Digital Editor Katherine Lagrave said, Sri Lanka remains “affordable, uncrowded and relatively unexplored.”

Specially mentioned were Colombo and Galle, where former was described as “undergoing a cosmopolit­an change,” the latter was said to have welcomed a new luxury design hotel called Tri Lanka.

“If that weren’t enough, the island’s timeless ruins and endless stretches of surf beckon,” Lagrave said.

Australia was ranked number one in the Condé Nast Traveler’s ‘Top 16 Places to Go in 2016’ list while Mozambique was ranked at number three.

The other 13 destinatio­ns endorsed by the Condé Nast Traveler in its list in order were; Myanmar, Brazil, Ecuador and the Amazon, America’s National Parks, Pedraza, Spain, Iceland, Tanzania, Madelin, Colombia, Miami, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, French Caribbean islands Guadeloupe and Martinique, Istanbul and Paris.

Tourists arrivals to Sri Lanka recorded in the 11 months of 2015 were almost 1.6 million. The earnings from tourism in the January-november period rose 18 percent year-on-year to US $ 2.5 billion.

Sri Lanka aims to attract 2.2 million tourists in 2016 and also expects the average daily expenditur­e of a tourist to go up to US $ 200, contributi­ng to generate a total tourism revenue up to US $ 2.75 billion.
