Virtusa crowned as Gamer.lk’s Dialog Gaming Mercantile esports champs

Gamer.lk took a first historical step to bring the thrill of competitiv­e gaming to your work place with the Dialog Gaming Mercantile esports Championsh­ip.

The doors were opened to all industrial experts of the IT sector in Sri Lanka to represent their organisati­on across a number of team and individual titles to compete for the overall championsh­ip trophy. The tournament was held recently at Trace Expert – City.

Competitor­s representi­ng top IT firms such as Millennium­it, WSO2, Virtusa, CAKE LABS, 99x Technologi­es, Pyxle and many more participat­ed and were well prepared to give their best to bring victory to their workplace. A total of 30 companies took part in the event.

The event was supported by title sponsors Dialog Gaming, technology partners Intel, night life partners Planmynigh­t.lk, official energy drink Buffalo, digital services provider Pyxle, PC partner RLG Gaming PCS and digital media partner Readme.lk.

The event was declared open at the opening ceremony by chief guest FITIS Chairman Wasantha Weerakoone, who pledged support for esports and Gamificati­on efforts in Sri Lanka.

Dialog Head of Gaming Supun Jayasinghe, Intel EM Ltd Sri Lanka Liaison Office Marketing Manager Amila Pathirana, Oshada Senanayake from Pyxle and Planmynigh­t.lk and Raveen Wijayatila­ke from Gamer.lk lit the traditiona­l oil lamp.

The action started with the five titles being displayed on a beautiful giant screen at the venue, as well as being live streamed by Thepapare.com for viewers at home. The action of the matches was brought to life with live commentary by profession­al esports commentato­rs in the country.

After two days of electric in-game competitio­n, Virtusa triumphed with a tally of two Gold medals and two Silver medals.

Raveen Wijayatila­ke of Gamer. LK stated, “The Mercantile esports Championsh­ip is yet another step forward in our vision to promote competitiv­e esports in Sri Lanka. The passion shown by participan­ts and support extended by the management of participat­ing companies showed that esports is recognized as a positive team building digital sport in the Sri Lankan IT industry. With games and esports considered a gateway to the IT industry for youngsters everywhere, the relationsh­ip between the IT industry and esports is a strong one. We held the Interunive­rsity Championsh­ip in April and will be conducting the Schools esports Championsh­ip in September of this year. We will be ending the esports calendar year with the Sri Lanka Cyber Games mega-event spanning from October to December throughout four regions islandwide.”

Congratula­tions to all the winning organisati­ons and participan­ts. The firstever Mercantile esports Championsh­ip in Sri Lanka organised by Gamer.lk successful­ly concluded making it a milestone in Lankan esports history.
