Maliyadeva, Dharmasoka MV record stunning wins

Dharmasoka MV Ambalangod­a and Maliyadeva College Kurunegala recorded stunning wins in the Singer Under 19 Division One limited over tournament with wins over St. Joseph’s College and S. Thomas’ College in the pre-quarter final encounters played at Karandeniy­a and Mount Lavinia yesterday.

Dharmasoka MV prevailed over St. Joseph’s on the Parabola Method after the match was stopped due to bad light, while Maliyadeva recorded a thrilling last-ball one-wicket win against S. Thomas’.

The knock of 146 made by Jehan Daniel for St. Joseph’s proved to be in vain and despite the Josephians ending their innings by making a formidable score of 313, the half tons cracked by Harshajith Rushan and Kaveesh Kumara saw the Sokians being in the challenge and during the stoppage they were on 244 for 4 in 28.4 overs, which was achieved before the stipulated 31 overs.

The match at Mt Lavinia saw S. Thomas’s taking first lease of the wicket making a modest score of 193 and Maliyadeva in their turn cruising well, before losing wickets at the latter stages, and ultimately pulling off a thrilling win.

Two other outstation teams, St. Thomas’ Matara and St. Thomas’ Matale too recorded wins against fancied teams in the Division Two limited over prequarter final encounters.

St. Thomas Matara overcame Sri Dharmaloka MV Kelaniya by 21 runs in the match played at Matara while St. Thomas Matale overcame fancied Sri Sumangala Panadura by 27 runs in the match played at the Panadura Esplanade.
