Indian offer help to streamline local governance here
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has promised to offer special training programmes to Sri Lankan State officers in Local Governance and provide resource persons to cnduct such training programmes in Sri Lanka.
Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Faiszer Musthapha is on an official visit to India to study and discuss the performance of Local Authorities in India, on a request by Nara Chandrababu Naidu during his visit to Sri Lanka, the ministry said in a statement.
Minister also held several discussions with some state officers in Andra Pradesh about Local Governance in the area.
“I got the chance to study about the best structure of Local Governance in Andhra Pradesh which we can follow to overcome the issues pertaining to Local Governance in Sri Lanka,” he told a media conference.
Minister said he saw how the powers should be implemented in a certain Local Authority and how the officers should work accordingly. “Though we have long term issues in Local Governance system in Sri Lanka, none of the officers try to overcome them.” he said. “The performance of the Indian officers is really appreciable and we Sri Lankans have lot to gain from them.
