Daily Mirror (Sri Lanka)

Hon. Nimal Siripala De Silva (M.P.) Minister of Transport Dear Minister,

- Thank you. Yours sincerely, Rohan Salgadoe

Let me bring to your kind attention the poor facilities existing in the passenger trains plying the Puttalam railway line.

Almost no compartment can get the fans in working condition. Some fans have been removed and they have never been replaced. This situation has been in existence for many months and years.

There are some trains (power sets) which never had fans. As a result, the passengers are facing many inconveniences when the trains become full. Especially these days where the heat is too much.

Likewise, there are some compartments in some trains with no lights and racks. Racks have been removed and never replaced. Lights too are like this. When lights do not function, they are not repaired.

I, who write this on behalf of my fellow commuters, thought of bringing this issue to your attention and look forward to seeing a remarkable change in the right direction.

It is our belief that no one from the Railway Department or Ministry supervises or audits the existing situation, nor are they concerned with the travel facilities experienced by commuters.

Please bring this matter to the attention of the relevant officials and kindly provide us with these basic facilities.

It has also come to our knowledge that this situation is equally applicable to other railway lines in Sri Lanka. Perhaps the needful should be done with trains plying the other lines too.

Please acknowledge the receipt.
