STUDENTS SHOULD BE EXPOSED TO PHOTOGRAPHY, SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT: PM
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday suggested holding a mobile phone photography competition and software programme development competition for school children so that they could develop their skills in modern equipment.
The Prime Minister made these suggestions at the Duke of Edinburgh International award ceremony organized by the National Youth Council at Temple Trees last evening.
“On Sunday I suggested to the Education Minister to hold a robotic machine competition among school children and today I suggest that mobile phone photography competitions and software competition be held in schools. I of course cannot develop software but let the school children get an opportunity to develop such skills,” he said. “It is important to recognize, reward and appreciate skillful youth as people with skills to handle modern equipment will be the future of this country,” he added.
He said Sri Lanka had some talented youth and stressed that they need a platform to develop them further and make use of available opportunities. “I see talented youth almost everywhere I go and wonder what good they could do for the country if they are given opportunities,” he further said.
State Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs Niroshan Perera said Sri Lanka’s youth had managed to rise up to the 31st slot in world rankings of youth. He said the objective of the government is to develop the youth to become leaders of the future.
