CHAMIL COORAY AND RASIKA RAHUBADDHA WIN CAROM TITLES

Chamil Cooray was capable of winning the National Carom Title for the 13th time by defeating Nishantha Fernando and Yasika Rahubaddha secured the Women’s National Carom Title for the third time by defeating Chalani Lakmali to take Women’s Single Title at the 49th National Carom Championsh­ip conducted by the Carom Federation of Sri Lanka.

A special occurence was that seven players were able to conclude their respective matches with 12th “White Slam” and “Black Slam” (concluding a match without giving an opportunit­y to the opponent) this time at the National Carom Championsh­ip.

This tournament was conducted under six events namely Men’s Single, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Single, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Veteran’s for 09 days during weekends from February 11 to March 5 at the Kohuwala Headquarte­rs of Carom Federation of Sri Lanka and over 400 players representi­ng various parts of the Island participat­ed in this tournament.

Having won the Women’s Single Title, Yasika Rahubaddha also won the Women’s Doubles Title with Chalani Lakmali and the winning Double Titles at this tournament.

The number of “Slams” recorded by the players throughout this tournament was 12th number of “Slams” and the players who exhibited their talents by finishing a match without giving an opportunit­y to the opponent are as follows:
