SAITM: GMOA, JVP IN TU ACTION IN APRIL

- BY DAYASEELI LIYANAGE

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) and a number of other trade unions were planning to launch trade union action in April demanding a solution to the ongoing crisis pertaining to the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM), it is learnt. The Secretary of the GMOA Dr. Nalinda Herath said that it was to be finalised by the Central Committee of the Association after its meeting today (27).

It is reported that many branches of the GMOA had already decided to stage the strike because there was no response to the demands, discussions and protests made so far over the SAITM issue. Dr. Herath said that many trade unions connected to the Jantha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and Public Service Nurses Union (PSNU) had expressed their willingness to join the GMOA in the event of a decision being taken to stage

an indefinite strike.
