GIVE US DUTY FREE VEHICLES: PC MEMBERS

Some 118 Provincial Council members who had been elected to various PCS for the first time have reportedly decided to refrain from engaging in their respective party works unless they were provided with duty-free vehicle permits entitled to them within the next three months.

Southern Provincial Councillor Amarasiri Kuruwage told the Daily Mirror that these Provincial Councillor­s have been making complaints and requests to President Maithripal­a Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesi­nghe and all other relevant authoritie­s

It was they who bear the brunt when it comes to the local level party activities

in this regard for the last three years but to no avail. He said in spite of this step- motherly treatment meted out to them by the authoritie­s it was they who bore the brunt when it came to the local level party activities.

He pointed out that the term sof many Provincial Councils is to lapse in two years despite the fact that theywere not given duty free vehicles for their their day-to-day official activities.
